Improve the essential skills that enable basketball players to create and finish more shots in any offensive system. Louisville Women's Head Coach Jeff Walz demonstrates more than 20 individual and team skill development drills designed to build the complete post or perimeter player. Most of these drills can be done with a partner, allowing athletes to work on their game both in the gym and outside of it. All 20-plus drills are competitive and tracked with stats to show players' development as they master each drill.
Within each skill development segment, Coach Walz builds a strong ball-handling foundation for post and perimeter players. Learn how he creates confident players who don't turn their backs to the basket, losing sight of everyone on the floor. You'll see how Coach Walz uses stationary ball handling and 2-ball drills as warm-up exercises to train hand/eye coordination, fingertip control, hand strength and court vision.
Guard Skill Development Drills
Since guards control so much of a possession, they must be rock solid in their ability to dribble and pass the ball. Coach Walz shares drills to help your players dribble with poise and make clean passes under tight defensive pressure. You get several drills that will help your players learn how to create space and attack their defender . See how Coach Walz encourages players to add variety to their game with the types of shots taken, dribble moves performed and the different passes they make.
Post Skill Development Drills
The post players drill series works on ball handling and hand/eye coordination with movement using two-ball dribbling and stationary work off a wall. Learn a series of drills to help post players with ball control . Focus on post-up techniques with the "Bad Pass drill" that works on holding the seal and knowing when to release to secure an errant pass. Expand your post players' range with several drills that will improve their scoring ability from the high post off half court movements and in transition.
Team Skill Development Drills
As a team, your players will learn to work together and find the open shot in "Transition Post Passing." In this combination drill, guards learn to perfect their post passing and vision while post players learn to create space in the post. Develop aggressive ball pressure with active hands as well as passing under pressure in the "Deflection Drill." Finish through contact in the paint with the "Close Down Drill."
Coach Walz uses every drill to condition his players into game shape. He demonstrates how to push players past fatigue, getting maximum effort out of everyone. Players learn to develop offensive and defensive skills as these drills combine to get the most out of time spent in the gym. From full court drills to half-court drills, you learn strategies to develop players at any position.
This presentation that has it all: From individual post and perimeter player drills to team drills and concepts, these drills are easy to use with any level of player. Coaches from college to middle school will benefit from the teaching and instruction Coach Walz offers.
