Championship High School Basketball: Practice Organization
with Stu Vetter,
Montrose Christian (MD) HS Head Coach;
2x National Coach of the Year (USA Today),
89% winning percentage in 29+ years of coaching

Coach Vetter, USA Today's two-time national coach of the year, shares his time-tested strategy on practice organization. Vetter, with the help of nationally recognized strength coach Alan Stein, begins with a multiple exercise and stretching routine. From there he moves into the pre-practice segment, which stresses individual skill development and fundamentals. Form shooting, 1-2 step drill, 2-man shooting, motion cutting, give and go cutting and post up cutting are drills included in pre-practice. Vetter demonstrates drills for the fastbreak, secondary break, half court offensive sets and shooting. The defensive part of practice begins with stance and defensive slides. Pressure is a big part of defense and Vetter believes in full court pressure drills. All one-on-one drills lead to the shell drill in the half court. The next segment of practice is used for special situations. Vetter demonstrates out of bounds plays and special last second shot play. To end practice on a positive note, Vetter demonstrates "20 Baskets" - a fun, competitive shooting drill to wrap up the session. This DVD is a great example of a well-disciplined and balanced practice. By using some of the organizational framework you can use time wisely and take great strides toward success! 91 minutes. 2006. Championship High School Basketball: 20 Favorite Practice Drills
with Stu Vetter,
Montrose Christian (MD) HS Head Coach;
2x National Coach of the Year (USA Today),
89% winning percentage in 29+ years of coaching

With 699 coaching victories behind him, Coach Vetter shares his twenty favorite practice drills. One everyday drill is the 'defensive stance' drill. This fundamental drill provides a defensive foundation for the entire season. The 'Mustang slide' is a fast-paced drill that incorporates the defensive slide with the dive. Renowned strength coach Alan Stein has developed a few of Vetter's favorite drills that develop quick feet and hands; 'Read and React' and the 'five-cone pyramid' are two examples. Ball drills play a key role in Vetter's practice drills philosophy. Stationary ball handling drills build strength and command of the ball. Included are the 'dribble and roll', 'two ball' drills, 'leg circle' drill and the 'leg scissors' drill. The'3-man weave' is done with 5, 4, 3 and 2 passes. To create game-like settings, plastic trashcans are used on the floor. Players dribble and maneuver around them and take on defenders. Another favorite drill is the '2-on-1' drill where offensive players attack the basket against one defender. To involve all players, the '11-Man Fast Break' creates legitimate game like situations. The 'Two-man Finishing' drill is excellent for powering the ball to the basket. Each drill is competitive and designed to benefit both the offense and defense players. Improve the quality of your practice drills today! 53 minutes. 2006. DVD.

Championship High School Basketball: 10 Plays for Special Situations
with Stu Vetter,
Montrose Christian (MD) HS Head Coach;
2x National Coach of the Year (USA Today),
89% winning percentage in 29+ years of coaching

Legendary high school coach Stu Vetter shares his special situations package that has helped him coach 699 victories. Vetter starts off with a versatile full-court offense for breaking pressure. Once the pass is inbound, the options are down, back, middle and throw over. A feature of this set is the over the top play against full front defense. To break a 2-2-1 zone press, Vetter demonstrates the 2-1-2 "Walk Up" or the 1-3-1 "Walk Up" plays. The "Up" play is good at the end of the clock. This play is loaded with scoring options for several different players. A good play for a hot scorer is "Loop," which includes three screens for an open shot. "Line 24" involves screening and down screening for a jump shot. "Blitz" is a predetermined play that can yield a basket on only 3 seconds. "Blitz 50" is the same play but creates a shot at half court in only 2 seconds. With less than 2 seconds, an out-of-bounds play, "Horse", can lead to a lob or a direct pass from the corner. When in need of a 3-pointer, "Laker" can set up your best shooter at the end of the game. These time-tested plays will give you more options when you need them most! 37 minutes. 2006. DVD.
