The key to beating the 5-3 defense, according to Creehan, is spreading out the defense with open formations. Five pass plays are shown along with 14 running plays including an option and inside and outside counters. The 14 plays are shown in both belly and buck option series. Every play looks alike, making it difficult for the defense to read. Also, every play covers both sides of the defense from flank to flank.
