Todd Norman's workout for linebackers and defensive backs, done at least six weeks before training camp, will maximize body control, explosive power, reaction, and overall movement precision. Coach Norman begins with 10 power training drills for hand speed, core strength, and vertical explosion utilizing plyometrics and the medicine ball. Next, Norman demonstrates over 30 quick feet agility drills utilizing cones, low hurdles, and bungee cords. The four-cone weave drill simulates back-pedaling with forward sprinting, and the 8-point reaction drill is a must for these positions. Norman moves on to LB/DB specific movement training that is broken down into three sections; defeat the run, cover the pass, and run/pass reaction drills. These drills are performed with the use of weight belts and hand weights, and further demonstrated with bungee cords for resisted/assisted contrast training. Another element of this program is resisted and assisted linear speed training, performed in a variety of movements including backpedal to sprint, shuffle to sprint, hand weight drops and let-go's. Todd Norman's workout for receivers and running backs, done at least six weeks before training camp, will maximize their chances for on-field success. He begins with eight power training drills utilizing plyometrics and the medicine ball for hand speed and finger strength, core development, and vertical explosion. Next is a series of 17 quick feet agility drills specific to receivers and backs that require rapid cuts and directional changes. Small hurdles, resistance bands, and incorporation of catching the football within the drills are used to physically and mentally develop precision and focus. Norman begins the workout with four key rotator cuff training exercises utilizing the aid of a resistance band for developing shoulder strength and endurance. Various exercises include the single-handed pass, two step pass, chest pass, and power push. Next, Norman demonstrates 16 OL specific quick feet agility drills to work on coordination, balance, and reaction. Then, OL specific movement training is demonstrated utilizing weighted belts, along with the implementation of bungee cords for resisted and assisted blocking patterns. Various drills include those for pass protection, pulling, and run blocking. All of these drills replicate game-like situations. Next, Norman's unique Complex Conditioning series for offensive lineman is broken down and detailed.
