The Basics of Indoor Lacrosse

with Johnny Mouradian,
Philadelphia Wings General Manager and Head Coach; Inducted into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame ('08)

Welcome to the fast-paced, unique game of indoor lacrosse! In this instructional DVD, Johnny Mouradian uses an on-field presentation to introduce the game of indoor or box lacrosse.

Indoor lacrosse features up tempo read and react situations. Shots, passes and rebounds come at a high rate quickly developing stick skills and other lacrosse skills. Players learn every aspect of lacrosse, as they all play offense, defense and transition.

Mouradian teaches skills and breakdown drills that will get any athlete familiar with indoor lacrosse. He shares teaching points on taking advantage of the boards as well as tuning your stick for speed and accuracy. He also shares the importance of the ready four position and gives tips on effective use of the cradle.

Shooting fundamentals and passes-both overhand and backhand-are covered as well.

A former lacrosse standout at Ithaca College, Johnny Mouradian has made National Lacrosse League headlines since 1992 when he joined the Buffalo Bandits for five-year stretch as general manager. During his years with the Bandits, he led the team to league championships three times and made the playoffs every season. Mouradian added two more championship titles to his list of accomplishments with his next team, the Toronto Rock, who finished at the top of the league in 1999 and 2000. Mouradian remains the only general manager in the NLL to win five championships, a distinction that led to his 2009 induction into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame. He is also a member of Ithaca's Hall of Fame. 73 minutes. 2011. DVD.

Indoor Lacrosse: Offensive and Defensive Drills

with Johnny Mouradian,
Philadelphia Wings General Manager and Head Coach; Inducted into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame ('08)

Lacrosse legend Johnny Mouradian opens this on-field demonstration with the coaching points and philosophy behind the effective execution of various shots. Mouradian uses NLL players to demonstrate six effective shooting techniques: Underhand, overhand, backhand, sidearm, break away and screen shots. Quick stick and inside rolling shots are also covered.

Mouradian also shows the best way to manage the 30-second clock, demonstrating how a goalie can get the ball out of the crease and how the defense can move it across the center line before time runs down.

Since winning an indoor lacrosse game often hinges on strong 1-on-1 defenders, Mouradian explains individual defensive principles. He also covers defending the pick, the re-pick, and the 2-man screen game.

He finishes with the importance of safety when players go to the corner and pick up a loose ball. A defender heading to the corner must make a jab, pick up the ball, and quickly get out of trouble.

The offensive and defensive skills for the 4-on-4 game and a 3-man game are also demonstrated. 73 minutes. 2011. DVD.

Indoor Lacrosse: Alley System, Pick Series and Screen Series

with Johnny Mouradian,
Philadelphia Wings General Manager and Head Coach; Inducted into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame ('08)

Lacrosse legend Johnny Mouradian details the alley system beginning with an easy-to-follow explanation of the alley numbering system, including the rationale behind the low-, mid- and high-alley areas.

Mouradian covers offensive 1-on-1 movement and positioning, using players to demonstrate the concepts.

He moves into the two-man pick series, which can be used to pressure the defender covering the ball. With Mouradian providing a step-by-step explanation, players execute several effective strategies, including the give and go, slip pick, brush pick, up pick, backdoor pick, pick and re-pick. Mouradian also covers the importance of taking inventory, looking at the clock, looking at defenders and understanding the overall offensive situation.

Since the screen can be used in the two-man series to pressure a defender without the ball, Mouradian includes several proven tactics like up screen, back screen, slip screen, and down screen. He stresses the importance of seeing the floor, keeping your stick in the ready four position and taking advantage of confused defenders.

All of these tactics when combined create a potent offensive attack that can be utilized both on the floor or on the field! 51 minutes. 2011. DVD.
