Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Freestyle
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

Coach Marsh begins with an overview of the foundation of fast freestyle, reviewing proper body positioning, the catch, pull and recovery. Marsh introduces two varieties of drills he feels are essential for building a faster freestyle: Breakdown Drills that isolate specific stroke components and Flow Drills that connect the isolated components into full fluid and flowing motions of the stroke. Throughout these drills, Marsh shares tips that will help you implement the components for fast freestyle. Marsh's cutting edge instruction presents the latest stroke techniques that the world's fastest swimmers are implementing including how to set a high elbow catch, the three-quarter catch up concept, tips for finding the optimal recovery for your stroke whether it be the traditional high elbow recovery or a more "open" recovery, and the flat body position that have helped Marsh's Auburn swimmers shatter NCAA freestyle records in individual and relay events. Former NCAA Champion and Olympian Brett Hawke provides the demonstrations in this incredible DVD. By implementing Coach Marsh's freestyle tips, drills and skills, you will be well on your way to Gettin' Better! 37 minutes. 2007

Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Backstroke
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

Coach Marsh feels that the key for faster backstroke is simplicity. First, Marsh will help you simplify your body position by teaching you how to achieve a "tall and flat" posture in the water. Simplifying the pull pattern involves a solid bent elbow catch and a straighter linear throw to the finish of the pull that creates a quick transition into the recovery. This simplicity brings about a faster stroke tempo with less energy spent so that you can swim faster longer in backstroke races. To accomplish this system for the stroke, Marsh will take you through a combination of breakdown drills that isolate particular stroke segments and flow drills that connect the isolated components into a flowing efficient stroke. Along with the technique instruction, Marsh will give you "tips" for swimming faster backstroke detailing the stroke, race tips and how to take advantage of utilizing the flags for turns and finishes. Demonstration from World Champion Margaret Hoelzer and NCAA All-American Doug Van Wie greatly enhance this presentation. 55 minutes. 2007.

Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Breaststroke
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

For Coach Marsh, fast breaststroke swimming requires balance, timing, and developing a strong kick. Beginning on deck with Olympian Mark Gangloff, Marsh shares techniques and tips for developing and understanding the breaststroke kick. In the water, Marsh begins with setting the body position for the stroke with the kick and then moves into the pull instruction, sharing a series of sculling drills that will help you develop a feel for the simplicity and efficiency involved in the ideal pull pattern for the stroke. Marsh then adds breathing and timing to the stroke while sharing invaluable tips as to how to incorporate the proper breathing timing and technique into the stroke. Like the butterfly stroke, the most successful breaststroke swimmers have adopted a style of breaststroke that is a flatter and more forward focused stroke. In this DVD, Marsh will give you the tools necessary to implement the latest innovations for fast breaststroke swimming.46 minutes. 2007.

Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Butterfly
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

David Marsh feels that "swimming flat" is the first step to Gettin' Better at butterfly. The traditional days of the butterfly's classic up and over and down and under undulation have given away to a forward focused stroke that creates a much smaller and tighter "line" of undulation. Coach Marsh's butterfly instruction features NCAA All-American and Olympian Jeremy Knowles as the demonstrator. Marsh's butterfly instruction moves in sequence from body positioning, to the kick, the pull, the recovery and timing of the full stroke. Marsh first focuses upon establishing a feel for the flat body positioning with drills that focus upon undulating from the chest and core. He then shares drills and tips for a quick and efficient kick before moving into pull and recovery drills. Marsh finishes with timing drills that will help teach you to establish a low-profile flowing butterfly with the goal of going faster more efficiently. Flat is where it's at when it comes to our present day butterfly and with David Marsh's expertise, you will be well on your way to a flat and efficient stroke that will assure you of Gettin' Better at Butterfly. 41 minutes. 2007.

Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Starts
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

David Marsh believes that the most immediate and dramatic time drops a swimmer can achieve lie within the start. In this presentation, Coach Marsh includes instruction for the forward, the back and relay starts. For both the forward and back start instruction, Marsh begins with "agility" drills that will help you put a "jump" into your start to create a stronger "launch" off of the blocks. Marsh also assists you with proper foot placement and body positioning in the start set-up. Marsh follows with instruction that shows you how to get into the water cleanly and hold a strong tight line to optimize carrying entry speed from the dive into the breakout. Included are start demonstrations for all four competitive strokes. Marsh also includes both basic and advanced instruction for relay take-offs and shares the step-up relay start techniques that led his Auburn teams to repeated dominant and record breaking relay performances. 48 minutes. 2007.

Gettin' Better with David Marsh: Tips, Drills & Skills for Faster Turns
with David Marsh,
8 X NCAA Coach of the Year,
12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn;
2 X Olympic Coach,
Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina

Nothing exemplifies Coach Marsh's passion for fast swimming like the attention to detail that he demands in turns. Along with the start, Marsh feels that the turn is a skill that if honed and perfected, can bring about significant time drops for swimmers at any level! Marsh feels that with all turns, it is crucial to build the turn from "spinning" foundations done at mid-pool before proceeding to the wall. For all turns, Marsh presents mid-pool drills that teach and focus on the art of compact and tight spinning. Marsh proceeds to the wall with his "plant, pause and push" sequence before executing the full turn. Marsh begins with turns for breast and fly - short axis turns followed by long axis turns, free and back and finishes with turns for the individual medley. Throughout the presentation, Marsh shares turn tips that created a "wall domination" reputation for his Auburn swimmers! 57 minutes. 2007.
