Kasl presents a six-drill progression for the butterfly turn. These drills include teaching a tight spin to optimize change of direction speed, simplified cadences for arm actions and training the swimmer to grab a breath while maintaining a low profile on the wall.
Kasl includes block set-up and strategies for an arrow-like, streamlined entry into the water. He also discusses specific strategies for the butterflyer to transition from the start entry into the kickout and maintaining optimal speed through the first stroke cycle. Also included in the start segment is a single step relay exchange.
