University of Virginia Head Coach Steve Garland has been very successful, having won the 2010 ACC Championship with his team and the 2010 ACC Coach of the Year Award. He was an All-American Wrestler at Virginia and the 2000 ACC Wrestler of the Year. Now, Coach Garland provides unique, creative and fun ways to work on old positions. In this DVD you will see more than 20 drills that develop the skills needed to become a dominant wrestler. These drills can easily be added into your practice routine and they will help create the muscle memory necessary to become a chain wrestler. Using this system of drills can help both wrestlers and coaches:

Train on core concepts and vitals skills while changing up their routine
Learn how to keep an opponent off balance
Focus on the four key positions from the feet
Build good positioning technique into every portion of practice
Warm-up and Conditioning Drills

Coach Garland demonstrates a variety of warm-up sequences that progress from light intensity, through intermediate intensity, and on to a high intensity session. He gives you several drills that will increase speed, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. Each of the drills demonstrated builds on earlier drills and motor skills. Therefore, wrestlers can perform them more effectively and see how the skills are put together in order to create the ultimate chain wrestler.

From the Feet - Learn great drills for making wrestlers more effective on their feet. Coach Garland shares drills that focus on the four main positions in wrestling (Single Leg Position, Double Leg Position, Hi-Crotch Position and the Re-Shot), as well as short offensive drills that will enable wrestlers to become more complete in wrestling on their feet. These drills include both individual and partner drills, and they include everything from shot drills to proper short offensive drills. Garland goes over each position with a focus on the perfect attack position and the ability to defend. Scrambling drills are also taught in great detail. These drills focus on defending a low single leg attack and stopping funk counters. With the proliferation of these techniques at the high school and college levels, it is very important that wrestlers have a defense for them.

Top Position - From the top position, Coach Garland starts with his philosophy, and how to use the drills presented to become a dominant top wrestler. You'll see the "Grind Ride" drill that University of Virginia wrestlers use to dominate their opponents.

Bottom Position - Learn specific drills that you can be use at practice in order to fight common positions and create muscle memory. The bottom position drills presented in this wrestling DVD cover how to defend basic breakdowns such as the Spiral Ride, Tight Waist and Ankle Ride. Learn about the little things that will make it easier for you to escape and score from the bottom position.

The drills covered in this DVD will help keep your team in excellent position during matches, as well asl keep your wrestlers excited about practice, leaving the monotony of traditional practice behind. 65 minutes. 2013.
